On holiday, on top of the world
Responding automatically to each event of a mobile user attempting to either call or log on to the internet, BillRun detects whether the user has exceeded their calling or data package balance abroad, and either authorizes or prevents the action accordingly. Next, to determine the calling rate and calculate the cost, the system accesses the relevant rate information from each MCC (mobile country code) field according to the country where the call is originating.
For prepaid users, pricing is done in real-time. For postpaid subscribers BillRun is able to process files sent from a clearing house through TAP3 (transferred account procedure, version 3) protocol, or directly from the network provider of the relevant foreign country. Rating is normally calculated based on the serving network field, but could depend on a combination of source and destination countries, for example, if the package offers a fixed rate for calling from/to any one of a list of countries.
Using BillRun, Prepaid and Postpaid subscribers alike can be notified via a text message when they are about to reach their balance limit while abroad. Subscribers could be alerted that usage will soon be terminated, including an offer to upgrade their plan. Such alerts could also be beneficial in preventing a bill shock reaction later on. BillRun supports additional features such as national roaming – enabling providers to view listings of each foreign network where calls originated – highly helpful for providers that support multiple networks; An SDR currency field is used for computing billing between operators.
