BillRun Billing Release 6

Tel Aviv, November 1, 2026 - BillRun Technologies, the provider behind the leading open-source billing and revenue management platform, today announced the general availability of BillRun Billing 6.0. This major release rebuilds the platform on a modern technology base and adds new billing features, stronger security and simpler operations. It is designed for the most demanding telecom, SaaS and utilities deployments.

Built for scale

  • Modern technology base. BillRun Billing now runs on the latest PHP (up to 8.5) and MongoDB (up to 8.0). Operators get better performance, current security standards and long-term support.
  • Grow with your business. Data can be spread across multiple database servers (sharding) from day one. Billing data for very large accounts is now stored in a way that removes earlier limits on how many subscribers a single account can have.
  • Faster processing. Usage records move through rating and pricing faster and with less memory usage. Common lookups through the API are much more efficient, therefore customer-facing operations are faster.
  • Distributed background jobs. Billing runs and other heavy tasks can be spread across several workers to add capacity as volumes grow.

Enterprise-grade security and compliance

  • Certified security. BillRun Technologies is ISO/IEC 27001 certified, and SOC 2 certification is underway. BillRun Cloud Billing® customers get independent assurance of our security and operational controls.
  • Single sign-on. Teams can log in through their existing Identity Management System using OpenID Connect or OAuth 2.0, with roles mapped automatically.
  • Field-level encryption. Sensitive customer and payment fields can be encrypted at rest and shown only to authorized users, without application changes.
  • Hardened platform. This release went through a security review. It closes input-validation gaps, protects file uploads, secures tenant creation and keeps payment-gateway secrets out of logs.
  • Secure payment connections. File-based payment-gateway connections now support SSH-key authentication.

New powerful billing capabilities

  • Customer hierarchy. Model parent and child accounts up to four levels deep, such as headquarters and branches, franchises or resellers. Charges from sub-accounts roll up to the right invoicing account, and a different account in the hierarchy can be set to pay. Customers without a hierarchy are not affected.
  • Immediate refunds. Refund an existing invoice directly through the API, with full adjustment support and configurable limits on how far back refunds can go.
  • Precise proration. Operators control proration at the start and end of a service separately, and can set a discount to be prorated always, for more accurate revenue recognition.
  • Scheduled billing runs. Schedule billing cycles and charges to run at a future time from the user interface.
  • Clearer subscriber discounts. Subscriber-level discounts now follow changes to the subscriber over time, so they no longer silently override them.
  • Tax built into pricing. Tax is now calculated together with customer pricing, which makes priced charges simpler and more consistent.

Simpler operations and deployment

  • Official Docker image. Get started with docker pull billrun/billrun:6.0.0. A new image is published with every release, ready for single-tenant or multi-tenant deployments.
  • Reliable upgrades. Database setup and upgrades are now built into BillRun Billing itself. They are safe to run more than once, tracked, and can run automatically when the container starts.
  • Public API reference. A complete OpenAPI reference makes it easier for partners and developers to integrate with BillRun Billing.

A modern experience and broader integrations

  • Refreshed user interface, built on the latest version of React for a faster, more responsive experience.
  • New invoice PDF engine. Invoices can now be produced with WeasyPrint, a modern open-source engine. It comes with a new invoice template and full support for Hebrew and other right-to-left languages. The existing engine remains available.
  • eBill integration, second generation. Adds automatic handling of response files, configurable file naming and more flexible data mapping.
  • More telecom data sources. Adds support for Nokia (NSN) usage files, 5G data usage, and more flexible handling of TelDas and other input sources.
  • Per-customer invoice exports. Choose which invoice fields each customer receives.
  • More flexible payment gateways, with custom file naming, custom styling and text, and updated CreditGuard support.

Looking ahead: the foundation for AI-powered billing

BillRun Billing 6.0 is more than a feature release. It is the foundation for our next generation of AI capabilities. The scalable job processing, modern data layer, current runtime, built-in upgrade framework and single sign-on support together give us the platform to deliver intelligent billing. Coming soon after 6.0:

  • AI Agent for Billing Operations. An assistant that handles day-to-day billing work: running billing cycles, investigating exceptions, reconciling payments and acting on instructions given in plain language.
  • AI Agent for Billing Analysts. A conversational analyst that answers questions about revenue, churn, usage and margins directly from your live billing data. It can drill down to individual invoices, subscribers and usage events.

Availability

BillRun Billing 6.0 is available now under the open-source AGPLv3 license, with no vendor lock-in, and on Docker Hub as billrun/billrun:6.0.0. Existing customers can upgrade through the standard upgrade path.
